PROJECT UPLOAD PAGE
STEP 3 : Checking your files.
After you upload your files, please check your website to see if
the files have been uploaded correctly, and if the webpages
and the hyperlinks are working properly.
The Website address to use is:
http://everest.bic.nus.edu.sg/project_submissions/hons/upload/xxxx/
where xxxx is your directory name. If you wish to have privacy,
please keep the xxxx as unique to yourself, and as confidential
as possible, which is what we would recommend.
It will prevent anyone from accidentally overwriting your work.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Under all circumstances, ALWAYS keep your original copy of your work
in case of harddisk error, crash, data loss or other accidents on the
server.
Report to Project Coordinator A/Prof Tan Tin Wee whenever you make
a submission so that we know what your secret directory name is
and so that we can keep track of who has submitted their
abstract or later on, their complete project.
STEP 4 : Important Tips and FAQs .
Please do not use spaces in your filenames. It causes a lot of trouble later on.
Do not name any file index.html until you are finally satisfied
and are ready to submit. This will give you a directory view,
and allow you to view whatever files you have uploaded by
clicking on the name of the file.
When you have finished, rename the first page that you wish your
website to load immediately as "index.html".
This will ensure that
http://everest.bic.nus.edu.sg/project_submissions/hons/upload/xxxx/
will always load your first, home page immediately, rather than show your
files in your directory.
If you are using Frontpage or other super-duper Webpage editor
or Webpage creator software, be careful of your hyperlinks. ALWAYS
check the Page Source (in Internet Explorer or View Source in Netscape)
to check that the hyperlink is not pointing to your directory on you
PC. It should use a relative link, typically consisting of just
the name of the file.
Don't forget the name of your directory.
Avoid fancy or gaudy background colours which make the text impossible
to read.
Avoid unnecessarily large images which take a long time to load
Avoid audio files.
Only create one directory with your favourite directory name.
and keep A/Prof Tan informed what it is. Some students
create more than one, and nobody will know which one is the
actual directory containing your final submission.
Please contact A/Prof Tan when you wish to
create subdirectories
use cgi-bin, Perl or other programs
create databases for search and retrieval
use Javascript
use Biovision (beta) software for display and hyperlinking of
pathway diagrams
A special class will be held for those who are ready to
construct a more sophisticated website.
Mail any questions to A/Prof Tan Tin Wee
